Background
It’s almost twelve years ago now that Jay Langworthy started Boomshot International Sound – his mobile, reggae-based sound system – after having hosted the Eugene, Oregon radio’s “Reggae Boomshot” (in Jamaican slang, the term “boomshot” literally means “number one song” or “hit song”, like a “shot heard ‘round the world”), which in turn let to him picking up the moniker DJ Boomshot... or just Boomshot to his friends.
After returning to California in the early ‘90’s, and a few years of working as a professional reggae DJ (radio, club, mobile, and concert performances), Jay felt the desire to expand the format of the business to include other styles of music. Growing up in a family of professional musicians, he was given early exposure to greats ranging
from Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, and Earth, Wind, & Fire, to Van Morrison, Steely Dan, Frank Sinatra, Marvin Gaye, and much more. Naturally, this kind of diverse exposure of styles has led Boomshot to become a dj with a far reaching knowledge and appreciation of music.
Over these last twelve years, DJ Boomshot has worked spinning Hip Hop, Disco, Funk, Rock’n Roll, Roots and Dancehall Reggae, at numerous night clubs throughout California, and also while DJing his own Boomshot International mobile sound system, which he uses to play special events like weddings, concerts, festivals, gallery openings… Boomshot even provides music for action sporting events sponsored by Red Bull energy drink.
In July of 2002, Boomshot relocated himself and his Boomshot International Sound to Maui to focus on a career as a wedding / special event DJ, and has since built a flawless reputation based not only on his knowledge of music, or expertise he uses to perform – but for his very professional and very friendly manner of business. In other words, DJ Boomshot is not just known for his skills, but has also become known for his consistently excellent service.
